Triple Factor Hearing Screener

One test, three potential hearing issues

The Triple Factor Hearing Screener runs three interleaved, adaptive tests: speech in quiet, tone in noise and speech in noise. Individuals respond to the listening tasks and on completion receive a pass, borderline, or refer result. Testing takes less than 15 minutes and can be supported by any responsible adult, ideally with good hearing.

Test 1 ยท Speech in Quiet

Conductive hearing loss

Supports system calibration, and identification of middle and outer ear issues โ€” often caused by fluid build-up, infections, or structural problems.

Test 2 ยท Tone in Noise

Sensorineural hearing loss

Supports identification of inner ear or auditory nerve issues โ€” responsible for permanent hearing loss.

Test 3 ยท Speech in noise

Difficulty understanding speech in noise

Difficulty processing speech against background noise โ€” may indicate an auditory processing issue warranting further assessment.

Automatic Audiometer

Pure-tone audiometry, accessed through the app

The Automatic Audiometer delivers a pure-tone test. The Standard setting provides a four frequency tone test with results displayed in an audiogram. The Advanced setting offers clinicians additional frequencies and controls.

Requirements

An important medical test with specific requirements

The Standard Screening setting defaults to 20 dB HL across the standard four frequencies. The Advanced setting features threshold-finding mode (−10 to 100 dB HL) and an extended frequency set available to hearing health professionals requiring a more comprehensive audiometric evaluation. The Automatic Audiometer requires approved over-ear headphones (such as the Sennheiser HD 300 or HD 400S) and an Apple touchscreen device. Results are accessible and downloadable via SSIMPL.
