Setting up Sound Scouts for an adult
How to prepare for a Sound Scouts hearing screen as an adult.
Before you begin
- Use a touchscreen device with wifi connection.
- Use good-quality headphones or earbuds (not gaming or surround-sound headphones). See What type of headphones should I use?
- Find a quiet room, free from background noise.
During the test
- Open the app and tap Start New Session.
- Enter your details (name, month and year of birth , email address for the report).
- Select the Triple Factor Hearing Screener when testing at home.
- Complete the calibration exercise (Supervisor Set Up) or ask another adult with good hearing to complete this for you - listen carefully and respond when you hear the sound.
- Proceed through the three test activities. Listen for the words and sounds and respond as required (i.e. tap or swipe) . If a sound becomes inaudible, wait - as the volume will return to a higher level.
- The game takes approximately 6–8 minutes and must be completed in one sitting.
After the test
Results appear on screen following testing if the device is connected to the internet. If you provide an email address, a report is also sent by email. If a hearing issue is indicated, the report will suggest next steps.
