Tips for testing children who are ELs
How to support English Learners through the Triple Factor Hearing Screener.
The Triple Factor Hearing Screener is available in English, Mandarin and Latin-American Spanish. Children who are English Learners may need extra support to understand the instructions.
- Review the words and phrases with the children prior to undertaking the test.
- When picking the words for the first activity (Speech-in-Quiet), ask the child to say each word out loud to ensure they know what the word is and how it sounds.
- Complete the Trial Run with the headphones out.
If a child’s language skills do not enable them to complete the Triple Factor Hearing Screener, including identifying 5 words for the first activity, you may wish to test with the Automatic Audiometer (provided you have the appropriate equipment).
